The outline of how it works is simple: once installed on the mobile phone, the MobyMobile client interacts with the server part of the system which in turn makes a request to the centralized applications and data sources, for example the same which “feed” a web site. The communication between the client and the MobyMobile server takes place by means of HTTP protocol (the same used from any computer to connect to the internet) through any mobile phone connection, anywhere in the world.
A second alternative of functioning provides the possibility that the MobyMobile server delivers optimized contents directly through the mobile browser present on the mobile phone.
The phone operators are not involved in the process of delivering the service; their role is simply that of providing the mobile connection (GPRS, UMTS).
The activation of the service for the editor can be carried out in just two steps:
1. personalization and setup of the mobile Content Management System to interact with the desired data source. The security of the data is guaranteed because the access to the db is carried out through a web service(web service in XML).
2. rapid publication of contents through the CMS by means of selection of the relative fields of the source data, or through a procedure similar to a simple copy/paste of text and multimedia contents (also video!) to the appropriate template of the CMS. And the game is in play!
MobyMobile formats contents in a particular way, reducing their weight in KB in order to considerably reduce the download time required. Each download of contents with MobyMobile, in fact, generates traffic of data expressible in terms of a few KB. Also the cost for the user, relative to the tariff profile and the operator used, will consequently be notably kept down.
Important: MobyMobile (ver. 1.1) does not carry out any downloads of data without the prior explicit consent of the user.
